Our CTR-BlueLync Serial
interface supports the RS232 interface used on Kenwood TS-2000 and Yaesu
FT-1000 radios and other radios. The interface is shown with a DB9
female serial port connector for the FT-1000. Other radios may require a
male connector.
NOTE: This interface does not provide "true
RS232" signal levels. Its output is 0 (logic high) and +12 VDC (logic
low) instead of -3 VDC or less for logic high. Most radios using RS232
interfaces accept these voltages.
CTR-BlueLync has been tested on the following devices and found to
function satisfactorily (thanks Ken, W7KKE):
- KAM+ @ 9600 baud
- Kenwood TM-D700 @ 9600 baud
- Garmin GPS-III+ @ 4800 baud
- Kenwood TH-D7 @ 9600 baud
- Yaesu FT-847 @ 9600 baud
- Yaesu FT-857D @ 9600 baud
- Nasa Marine AIS Engine @ 38400 baud
The interface
requires external voltage (5 to 15 VDC) and is shown with a standard
2.1 x 5.5 MM coaxial power jack (center +) that fits many "wall-wart" type power
supplies. You can also power the unit from the radio's power supply.
The schematic and board layout for this unit are shown
below. The interface can be built on a standard perf-board.

The completed interface fits neatly in a Hammond 1551H
plastic enclosure. The heads from clear plastic thumb tacks make
excellent lenses for the BlueSMiRF LEDs.
